Descriptions of each coffee contained in this sample pack:
Ethiopian Heirloom (Light-Medium Roast)
This coffee is from the Guji Zone of Ethiopia. The coffees from Guji are wonderfully floral, sweet, and full of complex flavors. This new 2021 lot of Uraga is no exception. The coffees from this lot were grown in the forests surrounding Yabitu Koba, Larcho Torka, and Layo Teraga. The Kerchanshe washing station where our coffee is processed began over 15 years ago and now comprises 350 raised beds, supporting 1900 farmers and their crops each season.
Burundi Peaberry (Light-Medium Roast)
This particular Burundi bean comes from the Heza Washing Station located in a remote part of Burundi, sitting at approximately 2,000 feet elevation in the Kayanza Province. This washed coffee is first dry fermented for around twelve hours and then wet fermented using fresh natural spring water for up to twenty-four hours. From there the coffee is rinsed and then dried on raised beds. During the drying period, a rigorous process of removing defective beans occurs multiple times over the twenty-day period as it slowly dries to the moisture of 10.5%. This particular coffee is a Peaberry. Peaberries are not common and are bean mutations that cause a cherry to produce just one bean. These Peaberries are small and shaped like footballs and packed with rich flavor, including notes of plum and citrus.
Guatemala Señora (Medium Roast)
We are very proud to offer this delicious coffee from all woman-owned farms in Guatemala. This label features a blend from three independent farms and has the combined characteristics of brown sugar, roasted nuts, and fresh berries. In Guatemala, women are the predominant coffee farm workers, making up approximately 70% of the workforce from picking to exporting, while rarely owning the farms they work on. This blend is supporting a rare group of farms that are actually owned by the women who work on them. We are very excited to support these impressive women, as well as their families and communities.
Colombia Huila (Light-Medium Roast)
This micro-lot coffee is from the Huila region of Colombia. Specifically, these beans come from the community of Las Mercedes, where a group of small coffee farmers pool their beans for export. Grown at over 5,000 feet elevation, this premium Colombian coffee has a unique flavor profile that includes notes of milk chocolate, cashew, and apple. This coffee is a great example of what a well-produced Colombian coffee can be, making a clean and delicious cup that is drinkable any time of the day!
